Locations

Project INSTAR has been a successful ongoing science teacher institute in South Florida beginning in 1998. We plan to expand our reach on a broader scale in Florida in 2008. Registration is now open for this summer's institutes from June 9-14 or July 14-19, 2008.

The institute in North Carolina began in 1999 and continued every other year until 2003. We plan to revitalize the North Carolina institute beginning in 2008. Registration is now open for the NC Institute from June 16-21 or July 7-12, 2008.

Other locations for INSTAR currently being explored are New Orleans, Ohio, Massechusetts, and California.

South Florida Project INSTAR

University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science is the University of Miami's graduate school of marine and atmospheric science. Located on a 16-acre campus on Virginia Key in Miami, it is the only subtropical applied and basic marine and atmospheric research institute of its kind in the continental United States. The Rosenstiel School conducts a broad range of research on local, regional, national and global levels. RSMAS is comprised of more than 100 Ph.D. faculty members, 150 graduate students and a research support and administrative staff of 250. RSMAS has close partnerships with NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory and the Southeast Fisheries Science Center.

North Carolina Project INSTAR

The University of North Carolina at Wilmington
One of the top public universities in the South, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is known for providing an outstanding undergraduate experience, the best in the Southeastern United States. It also offers master's programs that impact the region's needs and issues, and new this fall, a Ph.D. in marine biology, one of only two such degrees offered on the East Coast. The university is striving to become the best comprehensive university in the state and ultimately the best in the South. UNCW is recognized nationally for its marine biology program and this fall is offering its first Ph.D. - in marine biology, one of only two such degrees offered on the East Coast.
