Florida
This theme introduces participants to water quantity and quality issues in the context of the geologic environments of South Florida. Water is central to all aspects of our life here. Teachers explore Miami-Dade County waterways, Biscayne Bay and the Everglades, and collect geologic and hydrologic samples and data. Participants learn how to measure various water quality parameters both in the field and in the lab using Lamotte Chemical Kits and Hydrolabs, and use computer spreadsheets to analyze data. The use of these measurement tools can be directly translated to elementary, middle and high school classroom teaching.
